Denpasar must have a colourful past. Being once the capital of the kingdom of Badung, the city had been conquered by the Dutch in 1906 and its royal palace looted and razed. Our hotel was in Kuta, some 10.6 Km away. It is a beach resort and it came as no surprise then that when we entered the city, our driver pointed out to us where beach was. The streets in Kuta were lined with shops selling clothes, paintings, sculptures, woodcarvings and the likes and after checking into the hotel and a quick bath later, we were out again to browse through Kuta by foot...
