While in Yangon, Myammar, I had wanted to visit Kyaiktiyo Pagoda aka Golden Rock in Mon State where there is an interesting 24ft pagoda atop a granite
boulder that is precariously perched on Mt. Kyaiktiyo (inset). That would mean traveling 210 kilometers and because of time constraint, my friend and I had stuck to the original plan of visiting Bagan, the ancient capital city of the Kingdom of Pagan in present day Mandalay region. Tanah Lot in Bali reminded me of the Golden rock. Here, the Tanah Lot temple, Pura Tanah Lot which is one of Bali's seven sea temples, sits atop a big rock that has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide. Other sea temples, Pura Gede Perancak, Pura Rambut Siwi, Pura Luhur Uluwatu, Pura Mas Suka Pura Sakenan and Pura Pulaki do not sit atop a rock and perhaps are not protected by snakes too...
