Oh, Lombok was in the news a few days ago! An earthquake hit the Indonesian island and a Malaysian woman on a climbing expedition to an active volcano, Mount Rinjani was killed. Only in March, my friends and I visited Lombok. While we were aware of the existence of Mount Ranjani and had marvelled at its photo, we were unable to visit it. Instead, we had went on an expedition round the island, visiting exotic Hindu temples, lush green forest, beautiful white beaches as well as gili, as the Sasak people called the little islands around Lombok's coast ...and yes, I was under the impression that Lombok is just of those idyllic islands where greenery and white beaches abound....
