While in Lombok, Indonesia, I was reminded of Bali. It was not just that Bali was just next door, towards the west but a place which my friends and I visited, Kuta Lombok; naturally reminded of Bali's famed resort area, Kuta. I suppose that was because both share similar names, Kuta; and both boast beautiful beaches. Kuta Lombok has been cited to be the next tourist destination especially for people who love clean beaches and prefer quietness. The Mandalika Beach faces the Indian Ocea It stretches from Kuta to surfer paradise, Grupuk village and was rather quiet when we were there, with just a small crowd of people; very unlike the beaches in Kuta Bali or any other famous beaches of the world where there were many shops and peddlers and hordes and hordes of tourists. Then, of course we were there on a hot sunny afternoon. Mandalika had been designated as a Special Economic Zone and that perhaps explained the ongoing construction work there. Expect big changes in future...
