Korea Tour : Korean Chinese Food

There are Chinese in Korea; so, Chinese food is expected to be available there especially in a Chinatown. Chinese food in Korea do have a local Korean touch though; like for example the popular Jajangmyeon.

Tidbits on Jajangmyeon:

  • Jajangmyeon was originally the Chinese dish called zhangjiangmian 炸醬麵.
  •  The Chinese migrant workers from Shantung reinvented it in Incheon in the late nineteenth century.
  • It became popular after the Korean War.
  • The noodle is topped with diced pork, vegetables and a sauce made of Korean black bean paste called chunjang.
  • Onion and cabbage will make the chunjang sweet.

In Incheon Chinatown, Jie took us to a Chinese restaurant where Jajangmyeon was served. The chunjang was dark and had to be swept aside to reveal the noodles underneath.

Bet you would like to try this!
