Borneo Break: Trying for Kapit

Charles Anthoni Johnson Brooke, the White Rajah of Sarawak, who succeeded James Brooke as the head of the state of Sarawak was said to have founded Fort Kapit in 1880 as a garrison town to prevent the Iban from migrating up-river and attacking Orang Ulu settlements. Later, the fort was later renamed Fort Sylvia but the town retained the name of Kapit. While in Sibu, Mau Wei had suggested that we took a boat up the Rajang River to Kapit. Both Amber and I were gamed for the idea and we had wanted to put up a night there but unfortunately our plan was foiled by the Gawai Festival which falls on 1 June each year in Sarawak. There was a big crowd at the jetty. Many Sarawakians were going back home to celebrate this important festival and we failed to get a ticket...
