Busan Bout: A Walk in the Woods

I remember a walk in summer in a forest in Korea. Our bus had brought us up a slope, passing a vast expanse of greenery. It seemed a long while before it came to a stop and then, we were at a place where big mulberry trees abound. Thus, began our slow, relaxing walk up the slopes of Mount Toham, on a wide, clean well-maintained dirt road under the shades of trees. We were on our way to a world heritage site, the 8th century  Seokguram Grotto built during the ancient Silla Dynasty. The grotto, a part of the Bulguksa temple, houses a Buddha statue which has become a sort of monument in Korea. The walk in the woods was mainly to see the statue which now sits behind a glass wall, protected from tourists. No photographs of the statue is allowed, remember...   5
