On reaching Gili Trawangan, our guide took us to an eating shop. It was definitely not the best around. Lunch was served on a table outside the shop and it was both simple and forgettable. A man asked if we would go snorkeling, promising to take us to see the turtles at Turtle Point and the Nest statues at Gili Meno as well as a sunken Japanese ship at Wreck Point near Mentigi Beach. We took up the offer; and while waiting for the boat, we walked the street. There was a row of fine eating shops facing the beach and there were hip white tourists too and for that instance, I thought of Leonardo DiCaprio's 2000 movie...The Beach....
