I like it at night when the lights light up in Malacca, in the area around Jonker Street especially. It was like traveling back through time to an ancient town when you walk down the quiet, dimly lit narrow streets where the Baba and Nyonya of yesterday used to live. Chinese lanterns lend the area an Oriental feel but you'll know very well that this is Malacca if you wander to the area around the Stadthuys where you may find brightly lit trishaws which cater to tourists. Where we stayed, we just had to get through the backdoor of the hotel to a little dimly lit pub where we chatted and drank beer out of bottle as we watched boats carrying tourists, chugged the Malacca River. It was airy there, a perfect getaway from the hot and humid.
