Our guide related to us the story of giants who were best of friends who in ancient time, lived in Langkawi Island by the name of Mat Cincang and Mat Raya whose children were betrothed to each other. On the day of the engagement, Mat Cincang's son, the bridegroom to be, drew the wrath of Mat Raya when he flirted with another damsel; and the giants created a mess when they started to fight over the matter. Then another giant Mat Sawar mediated and the two realising their mistake, agreed to transform themselves into mountains; hence the two highest peaks in the island, Gunung Mat Cincang, standing at 881m and Gunung Mat Cincang which is 850m high.
