P for Phattalung 2: Island in the Sun

Forgive me for thinking that Hadthong Resort is near the sea. Phattalung is never near the sea and Songkhla Lake, the largest natural lake in Thailand, covering a wide area of 1,040 km² is easily mistaken for one. In the afternoon very soon after a heavy breakfast cum lunch and  arriving at the resort, we were all huddled into a boat and taken for a 20 minute ride across Songkhla Lake to Crystal Island. Once there, we were greeted by a wishing tree. Nearby were Diamond cave and another little cave with a shrine dedicated to the  Goddess of Mercy and the 18 arahants. A shallow Mirror Pond in Diamond Cave is rather popular with visitors who enjoy having their photographs taken for their reflections could easily form on the still water surface. Nature lovers would love the leisurely 300m walk round the island, admiring man-made sculptures which blend with nature. I was personally delighted with the vegetation there; the gnarled trees which reminded of magical forests in classic fairy tales.
