Summer Holiday: Floating Palace

I remember something like this; our guide wanted to buy something and he took us to a mall. There are a number of shopping malls in Edinburgh and the one we went to was in the Shore area in a buzzing port district called Leith, two miles away from Edinburgh. The Ocean Terminal with over 70 shops, a cinema, a spa, a gym, lots of cafes and restaurants is Edinburgh's largest shopping center but it ranked fourth place in the top ten list. It was rather quiet when we were there, not bustling like most shopping malls in Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur. The Royal Yacht Britannia berthed there however is a popular tourist attraction, attracting 300,000 visitors yearly. Also known as Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia, the Royal Yacht Britannia is the former royal yacht of the British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II and had been in service from 1954 until 1997. During its 45 years tenure, it had chalked more than a million nautical miles around the globe and welcomed aboard dignitaries the likes of US President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Presidents Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton; and in 1981, Charles and Diana, the Prince and Princess of Wales, took their honeymoon cruise on it. The Royal Yacht was built with complete ocean-going capacity and designed as a Royal residence to entertain guests around the world. No wonder it was regarded as Her Majesty The Queen’s former floating palace.
