Visiting Kunming, they say; isn't complete if you do not visit the Western Hills. Visiting the Western Hills itself wouldn't be complete if you do not visit the Dragon Gate. Located in Kunming's suburbs, the Western Hills have alternative names; Sleeping Buddha Hills or Sleeping Beauty Hills. As their names imply, the hills are located in the western suburbs of Kunming and from afar they either look like a giant Buddha or a lady. I figure it is either the Buddha or the lady depending on the direction you are viewing. Either way, we did not get to view them both for we had taken a cable car up the hills; and instead of viewing up, we had looked down at the development that was Kunming and at a wide expanse of water which I thought belonged to Dianchi Lake. The lady, it was said; lays beside the lake, her face and chest point upwards and her hair trails into the water...
