Summer Holidays : A Monument in Edinburgh

In the distant, the dark structure loomed. The Scott monument is a Victorian Gothic monument dedicated to the Scottish author Sir Walter Scott who gave the world Ivanhoe and many other novels. Sir Walter Scott was born in Edinburgh and it was only natural that he was honoured with a specially designed monument. It was built after his death and reportedly has over 60 statues of poets, writers; druids too; but probably one would miss them all except the  big one of white Carrara marble within its four columns. Needless to say, the statue of the man with a quill pen and a dog at his feet is that of Sir Walter Scott and his dog Maida. It was a cool afternoon when we we there, sitting on a bench and having lunch...
