It felt ethereal stepping into Yunnan Ethnic Village 云南民族村. It was like being transported into another world like an ancient Chinese street where there were shops selling quaint trinkets, dolls, bells and many other things that you'd probably buy as souvenirs. But Yunnan Ethnic Village is more than this. Covering an area of 89 hectares, 31 of which being water, this ethnographic theme park is a universe in its own right; which would be tiring if you choose to walk instead of paying for an electric car to take you round the 26 little villages that have been recreated to showcase the culture and architecture of the 26 ethnic groups in Yunnan. Visiting these villages was a joy itself; and at some point you would be doubly delighted to run into some performances or events that had been scheduled for the day. Take note that on special dates, there are special events too such as the Water-Splashing Festival of Dai minority from April 13 to 16, the Torch Festival of Yi minority on June 24 in the lunar calendar and the New Rice Festival of Jinuo minority from the end of July to the beginning of August. Count ourselves lucky for the opportunity to watch a performance in one of the villages; Yi Nationality village, I think.
