Dragon Head Rock may have been formed by the cooling of lava million of years ago. Locals however told the story of a real dragon which lived in the underwater palace. The dragon had wanted to fly to heaven and to do this, it needed a sacred jade stone belonging to the guardian of the Hallasan Mountain. The dragon stole the stone but before it could fly away to heaven, it was struck down by the arrow of the guardian. It then fell into the sea; and I supposed, just before it got fully submerged in the sea, it turned into a rock. Dragon Head Rock seemed very near to the airport. We reached there rather quickly and there were many instances when we saw planes flying down to land on Jeju Island.
