Beautiful Bali: A Memorial in Kuta

A well-lit, intricately carved stone set with a large marble plaque attracted our attention when we were walking the streets of Kuta. A close look at the plaque revealed names and nationalities of people who had been killed unceremoniously by Jemaah Islamiah (JI) terrorists. It was a memorial we had bumped into. Bali had been the target of Muslim terrorists not just once, but twice. The 2002 Bali bombings on 12 October which claimed 202 lives and injured 240 people was said to be the deadliest act of terrorism in Indonesia’s history. The 2005 Bali bombings merely killed 20 and injured more than a hundred people. The memorial which was on the site of the destroyed Paddy's Pub on Legian Street, was dedicated to the 2002 bombings. Sometimes the human race ought to be reminded of a not so beautiful past... A memorial in Kuta, Bali...

I like Bali - the last bastion of Hindu-Malay stronghold. They are peace loving people who just want to carve out a living. However, their Jawa countrymen are not so. They have tried to infiltrate the fabrics of the Balinese society and sow seed of discords and hatred through their "Peace-loving" religion. Hope that the Balinese stay innocent and not influenced.

This is the playground of the Australians. I observed that the "water holes" are full of Aussies.

Australia is very near to Bali and it is not surprising if they make Bali their homes. The things here are also cheap. Maybe, for the same reasons, we should make Thailand our water hole.Yes, it would be great if the Balinese will stay the way they are.
