Well

Sometimes, people spend a bundle going to faraway places to see this and that. It's not exactly wrong but many times, there are interesting things to be seen and done right at home. In Taiping, it's not just about visiting the picturesque Lake Gardens or the green Bukit Larut, formerly known as Maxwell Hill, which are already well known places of interest locally. The other day, some colleagues and I got to visit Redang Panjang, Ijok some 45 km away. Surprise upon surprise! Right in the middle of nowhere there are traces of British occupation!  Imagine a place or rather a structure 30m high with a 6m diameter called Perigi Gergasi. That's Giant Well in English. Water has been channelled from the river,  Sungai Ijok to a lake,Tasik Bukit Merah via the well. That's to irrigate the paddy fields.
