Meet Melaka: Venice of the East

Malacca, a historical city in Malaysia; I've been to a few times. Once, it was wth some campus friends; another time it was with Ah Heng and then, it was with Mau Wei. The first time was just a day trip by bus from Kuala Lumpur and the last two was by car from Taiping. Malacca has changed since the first trip. Malacca River seemed cleaner definitely and more exciting too. On the trip with Mau Wei, we stayed in a hotel near Jonker street. I suppose the hotel wasn't even three stars but the plus point was it was just by the Malacca River which in the late 16th century was a prominent port for traders from Europe and Asia. There was a path where one could take a stroll along the river  and shutterbugs would have a field day taking shots of the fabulous scenes. It would be nice especially in the early morning or towards evening though when the weather is cooler. You'd believe it if you were told that traders of long ago called this place Venice of the East.
