Loving Lombok: A Brief Take on Mataram

It was a hot day in Mataram, Lombok and I was glad to be able to take shelter in the cool Museum Negeri Nusa Tenggara Barat, a small museum that may interest some; but one can't hide there forever, I suppose unless it is a bigger museum like the one in Jakarta which houses the Java man. Then, of course, we have to leave for others places like the Cakranegara  Traditional Market, a dark, messy place where one could get cheap avocados and other traditional food. Our guide promised to take us to Ampenan Old Town and I supposed we did but it was not a thorough visit; and while I remember him telling about the availability of Chinese eating shops selling  Chinese food, he didn't take us to one and neither did we asked for it. We went to view a model of a ship in the ocean, drinking fresh coconut water from a coconut in a wooden, dilapidated stall in a rather unkempt environment...
