I suppose China's Dongchuan is known as Redland simply because of the red soil there. In Dongchuan, the soil is red or more accurately reddish brown; and it came about because of the rich content of iron. The warm and humid climate has resulted in the formation of its oxide; and oxides of iron, as we know, can be yellow, red or brown in colour. The accumulation of the oxide over the years has resulted in a reddish brown soil; and while the soil has little organic content, a strong acidity and heavily clayey; the farmers there could plant a variety of crops ranging from golden wheat to emerald barley, white potato flowers and pink buckwheat; all very drought-resistant which is all fine as the soil isn't very good at retaining water. The farmers and their plots of lands are scattered across the land; and since they plant different crops, they add different colours to the landscape and in this,way, create a stunning view for tourists and shutter bugs....
