Often I heard of people visiting Krabi, sometimes a bus load of them whose main purpose was to go shopping in Hat Yai but managed to pinch a day or two to include Krabi, the main town and capital of Krabi Province and Krabi District in southern Thailand even though it's over 250km away and the journey takes slightly over 4 hours. I've never dream of visiting the place, nor dream of ever stepping foot on it until the day a friend managed to get some cheap to and fro air tickets of over 300 ringgit with accomodations included; so here we come, Krabi!
