Summer Holiday: Peep at a Chapel

Back in Edinburgh, our guide had driven us out of town to the village of Roslin where in the 15th-century, an earl by the name of William Sinclair founded a Roman Catholic Church. Said to be once the home to the Holy Grail, the Collegiate Chapel of St Matthew has a unique architecture and boasts of Intricately carved statues and other stone-work; most notably the Apprentice Pillar; a pillar so beautifully carved by an apprentice that the master, in a fit of anger and jealousy struck him dead with a mallet. Now known as Rosslyn Chapel, it attracted thousands of visitors around the world especially after Ron Howard shot the 2006 mystery movie Da Vinci Code on location here. The chapel is privately owned by the St Clair family, so it was not surprising too that the chapel was fenced up. Since the chapel was closed on the day we visited, we just had to make do with walking around the perimeter of the fence and peeping at the building ...
