Statues attract. In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, there's the famed statue of Jesus called Christ the Redeemer which has been voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World; and in New York, America, the statue of Libertas, a Roman liberty goddess better known as the Statue of Liberty attracted over 3 million visitors in 2009 alone. Then all over Asia; even though some Buddhists themselves don't advocate the construction of big statues, there are many exceptionally big Buddha statues everywhere; in Myammar, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan; even in a predominantly Muslim country like Malaysia. The Leshan Giant Buddha 樂山大佛 in China which was built between 713 and 803 during the Tang dynasty stands at 71-metre. Smaller Buddha statues could be as mesmerizing such as the mere 66 centimetres high Emerald Buddha and the 3 metres Golden Buddha; both located in Bangkok's Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Traimit respectively.
