Damnoen Saduak, Bangkok's floating market was quite an experience! It was lively, colourful with not just lots of boats selling food and fruits but lining the riverbanks were stalls selling clothes, handicrafts and all sorts of souvenirs. The market was popular with tourists no doubt; there were so many of them that there was a traffic boat jam when we were there. I couldn't imagine buying anything from the stalls at the riverbanks but then, I did spot people haggling over prices from where they sat in their boats. Then there were people buying food from vendors on boats and I wouldn't dream of doing that without imagining that they did their dishes using water from the river. I read somewhere that Damnoen Saduak is Bangkok's number 1 floating market. A cab had taken us out of the city; to a dock where we boarded a long boat. The boat made its way slowly on narrow, well kept canals and then where the canals widened, it began to speed up. It was a thrilling ride and if you don't get dizzy; you'd then just imagine you're part of the cast in an espionage movie. The 1974 James Bond movie The Man with the Golden Gun which stars the late Roger Moore was shot here. Perfect place to end our holidays! Goodbye, Bangkok. Thank you, Thailand; for Ayutthaya and Khao Yai, too!
